Highlights: Fair Trade Organic Stuffed Animals and Apparel Made at Small Peruvian Cooperatives
We were delighted when “Grandma Wisconsin” from Madison started bringing organic Joobles down to Chicago for Leah and Alex. I had never heard of Fair Indigo, but they’re based out of Madison, WI and produce fair trade organic stuffed animals and apparel. The Fair Indigo Foundation and Fair Indigo Fair Trade pages provide really great information about fair trade, fair wages and eco-friendly apparel production.
The Joobles are a collection of organic stuffed animals. They are hand-knit at small Peruvian cooperatives with organic yarn and Oeko-tex certified safe dyes. They are incredibly soft. When you first hold one, you can just tell that they are made with “real” materials, not the cheap fabric most stuffed animals are made out of. Also available for all the Joobles are matching cardigans and blankies. We’ve had Racky the Raccoon and Cutie the Lamb Joobles and cardigans for a couple years. They’ve been through the washer and dryer many times and are still in great condition.
